Arterial Vascular Surgery

We provide support in surgical treatment of arterial vascular diseases and work in close cooperation with renowned vascular surgical departments in Cologne, and if necessary, in the broader regional area.

Treatments include vascular reconstruction and bypass procedures in the areas of:

  • Circulation disorders in the upper and lower leg (so-called peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) or smoker’s leg)
  • Pelvic arteries
  • Circulation disorders of the abdominal aorta and aortic aneurysms
  • Renal arteries
  • Intestinal arteries
  • Arteries of the arm and shoulders
  • Circulation disorders of the carotid artery for the prevention of strokes.

The affected vessels are exposed and opened locally, and any blockage or narrowing of the vessels is removed. Extensive blockages require a bypass procedure. In addition to bypasses made from specialized artificial materials, the body’s own veins may also be used.

Treatment options for distal vascular disorders may involve a combination of open surgery and catheter technology. For example, any changes in the abdominal aorta may be treated through a small cut in the groin.
